Sextiles: different in nature but pairing well

" Signs in sextile, and planets in sextile, are complimentary, different in nature but pairing well... Sextiles are apples and cheese, peanut butter and chocolate.

Take, for example, a planet in Pisces sextiling a planet in Capricorn. Pisces can be grounded by Capricorn. Capricorn may be lightened by Pisces. Capricorn can put Pisces dreams into reality through work and tenacity. Pisces may connect Capricorn to the ethereal. [A] sextile requires blending to access its benefits." - Satori

The Moon (and Sun) rise and set as they always do, but, when you move the settling-in stages of becoming familiar to a new home mean accessing the benefits of being with a place; a process Hawaiians call kilo. Paying attention.

The wild fires up and down and  north and south of us have been dampened or doused by the rains. Wind has come through from all directions to clear the smoke and the season has shifted. The coolness of fall is here.

Here on Camp Bamboo, the sun rises so the eyes see him, a little later in the morning needing more time to clear the rise of the ridge at the top of the 'aina (place that nurtures) where we are living. A clear sky and shorter days means we could have just a few good hours to do our laundry: wash in coolers, rinse in coolers, and hang on a clothesline. The conditions appear favorable. We have enough energy to do the work. We tune in to the "givens": the sun rises and clears the tree line after 10 am; we need at least 6 hours of sun to draw a line of wash; some days we have more energy to do the laundry then others.

We have been welcomed to this place by a Capricorn. We have an open invitation to join another friend, a Pisces, in the process of manifesting a dream of shared living. There are details and angles to navigate; life is like that. Months ago, this Pisces friend arrived with an invitation to include us in that manifesting dream. Both these friends, women, have stewarded and maintained the creating of 'aina with the land Pete and I camp on.

The practical magic and application of sextiles (ease requiring blending to access its benefits) teases at my genetic sensibility to tap the opportunities for pilina (harmonious association). Seated at the keys, with a belly satisfied with a warm and nourishing breakfast I wonder how to tell a good story; I need to work at blending the possibilities. Where to find clues?

Here are a few clues. Today is part of the cycle of the Moon leading up to Full. When the Moon is full the potency and water in life (plants, people, animals, relationships) is on the rise. It's a good time to harvest and make medicine. Surrounded as we are here, there are many options. Taking a clue from my body who is noticing the dampness, I returned to an old standard guide for harvesting People's Medicine and decided to make Nettle Oil, and Nettle Tincture.

People's Medicine is the kind of medicine we can afford, and with time and kilo, the plants living right outside our door have become dependable allies. Dried Nettle Infusions have been one of our everyday foods, made with a quart of filtered water, boiled and poured over one ounce of dried organic herbs (Nettles, Oat Straw, Comfrey Leaf, Red Clover, Linden) these are one of the 'safety pins' that hold life together for us.

The Nettle Oil I've made, and the Nettle Tincture I will make after the dew has dried on their leaves will help when the damp challenges my lungs, or sets into my joints. The oil and tincture are additional Wise Woman Ways to make our way. It's that pairing well in nature thing: deeply green and stinging green mixed with coconut oil (to acknowledge my tropical genetics) and 100 proof alcohol for a tincture because it helps access the benefits of the green. A little alcohol for folks like us -- who have alcoholism in our cellular memories -- is enough; it goes a long way.

Wrapping up this small story, I can report two lines of hand washing is hanging between bamboo stands, and along one side of the vardo. A pot of soaked kidney beans is simmering for a chili with turkey and locally grown veggies -- dinner in a few hours. A small plane pilot is driving Pete crazy with his aerobatics, and someone close by is making lots of noise with power machinery; too much noise for the old silver-haired man.

Sextiles in my nature have made an otherwise serious pre-disposition --a  recipe for controlling craziness -- and that would have been no fun. Life is hard, but, it can be amazingly wonderful especially when you develop a taste for chocolate and peanut butter or soften the edges on harsh reality enough to do the right thing without self-distruction.

Sextiles are a good thing to notice, and if you're handling nettles, as I was nettles or more properly called 'stinging nettles' because they pack a sting. At the very last minute of filling the jar with fresh nettle tops, I reached for a stem and got one powerful sting to my index finger. The finger we hold during Jin Shin Jystsu to harmonize FEAR ... false evidence appearing real ...
