I've just mixed up a second bottle of DIY hand sanitizers. The irony of us using 'hand sanitizers' is we've avoided being anywhere near them because they make us sick. The combination of the fragrance and the rubbing alcohol was probably the lethal trigger. Now that hand sanitizers are not just a sometime thing, but an always thing DIY recipes are showing up on YouTube and people like me and Pete have come up with recipes of our own.

People like me and Pete are always coming up with recipes for surviving and thriving. The hand washing challenge in the Time of Quarantine left me to combine People's Medicine with our everyday reality:

St. Joan's Wort Tincture is a herbal remedy I use. We, St. Joan's Wort and I have an affinity for one another. I have come to know the sunny yellow blossom, waiting for her to bloom, asking for her help when she has bloomed, and harvested her blossoms on hot dry late summer days and stuffed them into clean dry glass jars filled with 100 proof vodka. I have made People's Medicine with St. Joan's (or St. John's) Wort.

One of the human conditions that benefit from the use of St. Joan's Wort Tincture is addressing a virus, and flu.

Combined with the everyday reality of living without running water, let alone hot running water, we old rovers in the golden wagon on wheels are using a spray bottle filled with the cheapest everyday vodka and a small quantity of St. Joan's Wort Tincture homemade with 100 proof vodka.

TIPS:

If you don't make your own St. Joan's Wort Tincture, there are many sources to buy it online. If you live on Whidbey Island, Crow's Daughter sells the tinctures made with organic high-proof alcohol. Other wildcrafters sell the tinctures as well.

We're using Potter's Vodka from our local grocer. It's not organic, nor high-proof. Any alcohol will disinfect. The St. Joan's Wort adds a bit of People's Medicine to reassure me. And, if you're interested we are eating immune system supportive herbals and lung healing ones like: St. Joan's Wort tincture, Elecampane tincture, Echinacea tincture, Chickweed tincture, Nourishing Herbal infusions of oatstraw, red clover, nettles, comfrey leaf, hibiscus tea.

Rover's Remedies are things we experiment with to discover what works and what doesn't. Consider your personal reality, your body, and your ability to access the ingredients. Used in combination with other Wise Woman Traditions, while sorting through the onslaught of new information during the Times of Quarantine, hope you stay well and out of harms way.
